The traditional aerator is a trap: complex geometry, metal meshes, rubber seals and permanent stagnation make it one of the sites with the highest bacterial concentration in the whole water network. Anti-Legionella aerators remove precisely those conditions.

The aerator brings together every factor that favours proliferation: water standing between one use and the next, intermediate temperatures, oxidisable metal surfaces, elastomers that release nutrients and a mesh that traps particulate. It is also the point at which the water becomes aerosol.
Many positive samples at the outlet do not describe the state of the network: they describe the state of the aerator. Replacing it with an aerator designed for hygiene is often the measure with the best ratio between cost and real risk reduction for the user.
