Bacteria-free water
at the last centimetre
before the user.

The hollow fibre membrane does not reduce the bacterial load: it excludes it, mechanically, at the point where the water meets the person. It is the only measure that takes effect from the very first second, whatever is happening upstream in the network.

Technology

How a hollow
fibre membrane
works.

The heart of the filter is a bundle of hundreds of hollow polymer capillaries, fractions of a millimetre in diameter, sealed at their ends in a resin that forces all the water through their wall. It is that wall, not a bed of material, that does the filtering.

The capillary wall has an absolute pore size of 0.2 µm: retention is steric, that is, purely dimensional. Whatever is larger than the pore does not pass, ever, regardless of the incoming load, the contact time or saturation — unlike systems that work by adsorption or chemical action and lose effectiveness as they are used up.

The hollow fibre format serves a second purpose: fitting many square metres of filtering surface into a few cubic centimetres. It is this density that allows a comfortable flow rate to be maintained — from 10 to over 20 litres per minute depending on the model — despite sterile-grade filtration.

Hollow fibre filter cartridges: the bundle of capillaries is sealed at its ends to force the water through the membrane wall.
Origin

Designed and manufactured
in Germany.

The filters we supply come from Aqua free, a Hamburg company specialising exclusively in water hygiene, which develops and manufactures in its own plants in Germany and Belgium — membranes included. This is not the assembly of bought-in components: the chain, from fibre to finished product, stays in-house.

In-house production

Manufacturing plants in Germany and Belgium: the membranes and filter cartridges are developed and made in-house, not bought from third parties.

ISO 9001 · 14001 · 13485

Management system certified for quality, environment and — with ISO 13485 — for the manufacture of medical devices.

CE medical devices

The filters in the Baclyser® range are CE-marked medical devices, developed in collaboration with European university hospitals.

Individual traceability

Every filter carries a unique marking: installation date, expiry and batch go into the maintenance log.

How they fit into the plan

A barrier, not an alibi.

The filter protects the person, it does not remediate the network. In the prevention plan it has three precise roles, and in none of the three does it replace remediation.

Replacement and log
The stated service life is a maximum: it depends on water quality, pressure and frequency of use. Every filter must be logged with its installation date and expiry; in BRIQ SAFE the replacement becomes an assigned task with automatic notification.
