While the biofilm remains,
the problem comes back.
90% of the bacteria in a water network are not free in the water: they live inside a polymer matrix bonded to the pipework — the biofilm — which shields them from chlorine, chlorine dioxide, ozone and thermal shock. That is why the bacterial count returns after every conventional treatment.
- Legionella survives inside amoebae and protozoa, which make it far more resistant to disinfectants.
- Scale, corrosion and loose deposits multiply the surfaces available for adhesion.
- Dead legs, stagnation and temperatures between 20 and 50 °C are the ideal environment for proliferation.
